Tube Tussle
Prove your Pool Party Prowess in this Family Friendly Battle Royale!
Tube Tussle is a Battle Royale using water guns made the within Unreal Engine. Alongside 11 teammates, we iterated upon a previous project for 6 weeks to create this game, then further iterated upon it during winter to fully publish onto Steam
Roles on Project: Game Designer, Level Designer, and Producer
Players must push opponents into oil spots to knock them out rather than directly shoot them for damage.
Game Design
In creating a more family friendly Battle Royale the initial design challenge was to find ways to "Knock Out" other players within the game.
The solution to this problem actually became the premise of majority of our combat design.
-
Water Spraying meter, that when depleted would have a cooldown until filled up again
-
Harmful "Oil Spill" zones, where the barrels could also be sprayed back byb players
-
Players push themselves when spraying water
-
This being the players form of movement adds complexity in wanting to spray others, but also needing to conserve water meter for yourself to escape
-
-
Enviornmental obstacles
-
Kraken, Sharks, buoys, and ship wrecks can bounce the player and float them towards the oil or another player
-
Level Design
Itsukushima Docks Map
One of the Levels in Tube Tussle is the Itsukushima fishermans dock.
Each level within the game we wanted to have seperate character and possess a unique complexity to them. The Itsukushima Docks map is designed with verticality in mind. The player can jump while playing, this exerts a portion of thier water meter, but in this map there are 2 seperate pools of water connected by a waterfall.
-
The main large Docks
-
The upper Onsen pool
The gameplay that ensues within this focuses on the close quarters of the onsen vs the open size of the docks (but be careful for the Kraken enemy by going too far past the docks). The Barrels can be avoided by strategically placing them withn the Dock platforms, but don't get stuck there yourself.
